Thundarr Vs Thundercats… In Thunderdome!

Digital Painting. 8″ x 10″ 300 dpi. Rendered in Clip Studio Paint Pro using a Microsoft Surface Pro 4.

Hopefully enough of you are comic nerds to know who these 80’s cartoon characters are. Thundarr the Barbarian was a great Saturday morning cartoon although it had kind of a scary premise for kids who weren’t raised on post-apocalyptic doomsday scenarios. Here’s the intro.

Thundercats was probably more popular. And were an American made cartoon, but with Anime style action sequences. At least I think it was made by an American company. Maybe just for an American audience. The premise of the show is, as far as I can tell, “What if the cast of the musical CATS were superheroes?” Here, I’ll let you decide.

So, I thought I’d make a series of prints for “Thundarr Vs Thundercats.” And then I thought, “Maybe they should fight in Thunderdome!”

Which is of course from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome as seen here:

And that’s how I ended up with this. Because why make an image based on one obscure reference when you can make a print using several obscure references combined together. OK, Thunderdome was pretty much mainstream, but you get my drift.

Who would pay top dollar for “Thundarr Vs Thundercats in Thunderdome”? As either a comic series, an animated video, or live-action film?
