The last D&D campaign I ran (5th edition) prominently featured a lamia as a main character. My reason? Because a lamia has appeared in every iteration of the Monster Manual ever since 1st edition, but I had never seen one in a game, either as player or Dungeon Master.
In D&D the lamia is a fiendish creature with the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a lioness (except in 4th edition when they were instead a swarm of magic-using roaches). Neither of those really jive with the mythological origin of the creature. WIKI-LAMIA
